Getting started
WordPlume runs in Chrome’s side panel. After install, a skippable onboarding walkthrough can guide you through the basics. You can reopen settings anytime from the toolbar popup.
- Install WordPlume from the Chrome Web Store and pin the extension for quick access.
- Open Settings → Providers and add an API key for a cloud provider, or a base URL for a local runtime (Ollama, LM Studio, and similar).
- Select text on any page, then open WordPlume with ⌘⇧Space on macOS or Ctrl⇧Space on Windows and Linux, or use the right-click context menu.
- Run a quick action or start a chat in the sidebar. Follow up with more messages, switch models per session, or insert the reply when you opened from a selection.
In-extension help
Most answers live inside WordPlume so you do not have to leave your workflow:
- Settings → How to for setup tips, shortcuts, and an OpenRouter walkthrough.
- Settings → Providers to add keys, pick models, and test connections.
- Settings → Actions to customize built-in commands or add your own.
- Settings → Shortcuts to change the global summon shortcut.
- Settings → General for the floating trigger, page context, theme, and language.
- Settings → About for the disclaimer, privacy policy, and version info.
Connect a provider
WordPlume does not include a bundled AI model. You connect providers you already use, and requests go directly from your browser to that provider or local endpoint.
- Cloud APIs: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI, Mistral, OpenRouter, Groq, Cohere, Together, OpenCode, and compatible gateways. Paste your API key on the Providers tab.
-
Local runtimes: Ollama (
http://localhost:11434), LM Studio (http://localhost:1234), LocalAI, Jan, and other OpenAI-compatible endpoints on your network. - OpenRouter: see the dedicated section on Settings → How to for model selection and key setup.
API keys stay in your browser’s extension storage. They are sent only to the provider you configured, not to a WordPlume account server. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Shortcuts and ways to open
- Global shortcut (default ⌘⇧Space / Ctrl⇧Space): opens the sidebar on the active tab.
- Context menu: right-click selected text for WordPlume actions.
- Toolbar popup: open settings or jump to the sidebar.
- Floating trigger: optional chip near your selection; toggle in General settings or per-site.
Change the global shortcut under Settings → Shortcuts. Browser-managed command shortcuts are listed there as well.
Troubleshooting
WordPlume says an API key is required
Open Settings → Providers, choose a provider, and save a valid key or local base URL. Confirm the active provider and model in the sidebar match what you configured.
Requests fail or time out
Check your network, API quota, and provider status. For local models, ensure the runtime is running and the base URL is reachable from the browser. Try another model if the current one is deprecated or overloaded.
Context is too large
Shorten your selection, disable optional page context, or start a new chat session. Very long pages can exceed provider limits when page context is enabled.
The floating trigger does not appear
Enable it under Settings → General. Some sites are blocked by default; remove hostname rules there if you want the trigger on a specific domain.
The sidebar is empty or will not open
Reload the tab, confirm WordPlume is enabled in chrome://extensions, and try the global
shortcut again. Pinning the extension can make the popup easier to reach.
Insert / apply does not work on a site
Some web apps use custom editors that block programmatic text insertion. Copy the reply manually or try a plain-text field on the same page.

Contact
Preferred: Chrome Web Store
For bugs, feedback, and install issues, use the Support link on the WordPlume extension page in the Chrome Web Store. That form reaches us with your listing context and is the fastest way to get help.
When reporting an issue, include your browser version, WordPlume version (from Settings → About), provider type (cloud or local), and steps to reproduce.
If the store support form isn’t available in your region, email support@wordplume.com as a last resort.
Privacy details: see the Privacy Policy or the copy under Settings → About inside the extension.
